BTC is pretty practical as a payment service. It still is growing in the payment market due to the long time it takes to verify and approve at times but once it speeds up, it could be another payment source. Looking at Mastercard
as an example, they are looking to create a way to speed up payment and verification so they be used as part of their payment system. This is just a patent they won, so we dont have an expected date in which it will be released.
The best example you can consider is Wechat and Alipay, the biggest payment system in China. Most people dont have cards anymore, they pay via their phone app linked directly to their bank. Visa and Mastercard popularity is decreasing for locals who are just within China and dont visit countries outside where wechat and alipay are not as popular.
